Happiness > Money

A recent Fidelity Investments® study discovered that millennials value a happier work place over better pay. According to the report, millennials are willing to take a $7,600 pay cut, on average, in exchange for improved “quality of work life.” Per the report, “quality of work life” includes the following: career development, purposeful work /life balance, and company culture.

Interestingly, Fidelity reported that 86 percent of millennials are currently happy at work. However, almost 50 percent of these millennials are actively looking for their next work opportunity.

As a millennial, I highly value my quality of work life. Pay is important, but not at the expense of my happiness.

I understand that companies like Google, Facebook, and Zappos are revolutionizing the way we view work. To be honest, I can’t imagine what it would be like to have all those work perks! However, will having an arcade or Ping-Pong table at work make you happy?

The things that make me happy at work are:

- The relationships I have with my peers.

- Mentoring.

What are your non-negotiables for work? Would you rather take the money or do you value work culture more? Let me know what you think.
