I'm at a loss for words after seeing the devastating fire that took place at Marco Polo. It gives me the chills to think that people died and were injured in last Friday's event.
Like many individuals, I witnessed the fire taking place. I was in my car, on Kapiolani Blvd, and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Thankfully, our first responders were already on site.
As I write this blog, investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire. As we pray for victims and residents of Marco Polo, it's important we learn from this terrible event.
On a personal note, I'm in the process of:
- Reviewing my homeowners insurance policy.
- Testing our smoke detectors.
- Speaking with my family on an evacuation plan.
- Ensuring important documents are properly stored away.
Most importantly, don't forget to have a fire evacuation plan. Practice it. When you have that down pat, create a secondary plan. Practice that too.
Regardless if you rent or own, it's important to have a fire safety plan. I would encourage you to take the time to do your own due diligence.
